Program Description
Anthropology is the study of human and nonhuman primates. Anthropology is distinguished from other disciplines by its emphasis on a holistic, interdisciplinary, comparative, and evolutionary approaches to the study of humans and their relatives. Anthropology subfields include cultural anthropology, linguistic anthropology, archaeology, and biological anthropology, and anthropologists consider past and present culture, language, and biology essential for a complete understanding of humankind. The Anthropology Department provides a wide variety of courses that range from general surveys to specialized topics as well as internships and a field school. The program goes beyond an emphasis on coverage and content; it is designed to teach students to think critically and communicate effectively. Additionally, most core course requirements carry the General Education designation.
