Program Description
The Department of American Sign Language offers courses in language, literature and culture that enable students to complete an institutional requirement of Language (LN) as well as an Associate of Arts degree. We prepare students to function effectively in the Deaf community using American Sign Language while gaining an understanding and appreciation of humanistic ideals and values.
Career Opportunities
Upon the completion of the ASL Program, students will be well suited for complementary studies in Deaf Education, Deaf Studies, medical fields, sales fields, acting, and ASL/English Interpreting. The program will provide students with a strong foundation in American Sign Language and Deaf culture.
Transfer/Articulation Information
Admission into a major program at a transfer institution depends upon the receiving institution’s requirements for that major. Some major programs are restricted and require special application as well as a competitive GPA. See an Academic Advisor at both SLCC and the intended receiving institution for specific articulation information.
Estimated Cost for Students

Estimated Time to Completion
