Program Description
The Bookkeeping Clerk Program enables students to develop skills in the office bookkeeping areas. The most up-to-date tools necessary for securing and maintaining employment are emphasized throughout the program. Emphasis is placed on standard accounting office procedures including accounting software, secretarial accounting, computer based accounting principles; skill building, customer service, spreadsheets, business management, email, and word processing are also emphasized.

Time to Completion


Time to completion is 40 weeks based on a minimum of 12 hours per week. Less than 12 hours per week will increase time to completion.

  • Operate computers programmed with accounting software to record, store and analyze information and use computer to enter data or process information. [1,2,3,4,9]
  • Demonstrate knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer rand personal services. [1,2,4,5,7]
  • Compute, classify, and record numerical data to keep financial records complete. Perform any combination of routine calculating, posting, and verifying duties to obtain primary financial data for use in maintaining accounting records. Check figures, postings, and document for correct entry and mathematical accuracy.  Perform financial calculations such as amounts due, interest charges, balances, discounts, equity, and principal. Reconcile or note and report discrepancies found in financial records. [1,2,3,9]
  • Access computerized financial information to answer general questions as well as those related to specific accounts; classify, records, and summarize numerical and financial data to compile and keep financial records, using journals and ledgers. [1,2,3,4,5,8,9]
  • Demonstrate knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures and systems as well as office procedures and terminology. [1,4,8]
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.  Students will also create professional business communications.  [1,2]
