Plan of Study
The following is a plan of requirements to complete this Associate of Science degree in 3 years. Each student’s experience will vary slightly, as this plan does not include transfer work, Advanced Placement (AP), or other institutions’ concurrent enrollment credits. Math and English placement will be based on the student’s appropriate placement scores. If developmental courses are required, they should be taken in the student’s first semester.
NOTE: This plan assumes the student is prepared to take the courses listed. If prerequisites are required, additional semesters may be required to complete this degree.
Meet with the Academic Program Advisor and consult DegreeWorks for specific degree requirements.

Advising Notes
Two of the three majors-level geology classes are only offered once per year so students should prepare for that. GEO 1110/GEO 1115 are only offered in the fall semester, GEO 1220/GEO 1225 are only offered in the spring semester. Although not required for the degree at SLCC, geology programs at four-year institutions require these allied science classes - CHEM 1220/CHEM 1225, MATH 1210 and MATH 1220, PHYS 2010/PHYS 2015 and PHYS 2020/PHYS 2025. Students should prioritize degree electives at SLCC to emphasize the allied sciences as much as possible. For students who are behind in their progress through the allied sciences, they can take geography and atmospheric science classes. These classes are mostly geographic information systems (GIS) classes which provide a skill used by geologists in industry. Further, GEOG 2100 and GEOG 2500 at SLCC together articulate to GEOG 3100 at the University of Utah, so these two classes may be accepted by the U of U Geology Dept. as an upper level elective.
